Three of the big four supermarkets have reduced their fuel prices by identical amounts this morning (Thursday, August 27), with cuts that further narrow the gap between diesel and unleaded petrol after petrol price cuts at the weekend.

Morrisons was first to announce the cut of 2ppl on unleaded petrol and 1ppl off diesel, followed by Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

Peter Cattell, fuel director for Tesco said: “We know that lots of customers will have plans for the Bank Holiday weekend, so we’re dropping the price of our fuel to help them enjoy the weekend even more. This reduction of 2p per litre on petrol and 1p on diesel, at all our 500 petrol filing stations, will mean millions of customers save money by shopping at Tesco”.

Avishai Moor, Sainsbury’s head of fuel, commented: “We are excited to announce this great news for both diesel and unleaded users across the UK. We hope this will help our customers go further for less during this Bank Holiday weekend.”

Asda has not reacted having, last Saturday, set a national ceiling on unleaded petrol of 109.7ppl and 106.7ppl for diesel.
