ExxonMobil has unveiled its new Emission System Protection (ESP) engine oil technology. Mobil 1 (ESP Formula 5W-30) has been expertly engineered to help prolong the life of emission reduction systems while maintaining the previous high performance benefits of Mobil 1.
The new ESP technology was principally developed for diesel engines but is also suitable for petrol cars as it helps protect and prolong the life of both diesel particulate filters (DPF) and catalytic converters.
The technology limits the amount of oil-derived ash in the exhaust which could block the DPF and inhibit its ability to capture particulate material. There are other environmental benefits too. Low levels of chlorine help make the oil more environmentally-friendly in its used state. The technology has been developed to help deliver performance and protection in conjunction with improved fuel economy. This allows the oil to perform at extreme high and low temperatures and protect against engine wear and sludge.
It conforms to the new ACEA C3 category of low emission products recently introduced by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association as well as the existing ACEA A3, B3 and B4 categories.
The ESP technology has already received OEM approval from leading car manufacturers including Mercedes Benz, BMW and Volkswagen. It will be available to motorists later this month.
ExxonMobil recently celebrated 30 years of Mobil 1 innovation with Team McLaren Mercedes driver David Coulthard and Bill Maxwell who is known as the father of Mobil 1, present at the event.
