Detectives are investigating a suspected armed robbery at a BP service station in Middlesbrough.

The BP Tudor Lodge garage, on the corner of Ladgate Lane and Marton Road, near Stewart Park in Middlesbrough, has been closed this morning and was taped off by police investigating the incident.

A police car was at the scene and windows of the Londis forecourt shop appear to have been broken. The incident is currently being investigated by CID.

The incident occurred just a week after Middlesbrough Council’s licensing committee refused to grant the forecourt store a 24-hour alcohol licence after Cleveland Police expressed concerns about alcohol fuelled anti-social behaviour. The site is currently licensed to sell alcohol until midnight, and hot drinks until 5am.
